The essentials for bringing baby back home.
Your stay on the maternity ward is coming to an end: it’s time to take baby home! Baby will need their own little things. Here is a list of the essentials so that your little one has everything they need:
Clothes
Vests/bodysuits
Cardigans and jackets
Babygros and playsuits
- Chaussons et chaussettes
Socks and bootees
1 hat
Baby will grow very quickly and the newborn size won’t fit for long… It is pointless buying too much.
Opt for 100% cotton clothing which is kinder to baby’s skin.
Clothes with snap or popper fastenings are much more practical than those which need to be pulled over the head or done up with ties!
Feeding
- Bibs
- 1 breastfeeding cushion
- Optional breastfeeding accessories (bra, breast pads, silicon nipples, breast pump…)
If you are unable to breastfeed, ask your doctor to recommend a 1st stage infant milk.
Choose a changing table that is the right height so that you don’t get backache.
No pillow or cover! Put baby to bed in their baby sleeping bag so that they feel swaddled and snug like they were in the womb.
Stimulation
- Toys (mobiles, playmats…)
- Soft toys
When baby has chosen their favourite teddy, it is a good idea to have an identical spare one just in case the first one disappears…
Going out
- 1 mode of transport (car seat, bassinet, baby carrier, pushchair, sling…)
- 1 changing bag
